Wüsthof's Grand Prix series of knives is identical to the manufacturer's Classic series in the quality and craftsmanship of the blades, but offers a more contemporary handle design. Formed with the perfect balance of high-carbon steel and a stain-resistant alloy, these knives retain their edges longer and are easier to resharpen. The blades are ground and polished by computer, ensuring perfect tapering from bolster to tip, and the edge is then hand honed for precision slicing. The tang extends through the slip-free, molded polypropelene handle for excellent balance.

Perfect as a wedding gift, this 10-piece set has all the kitchen cutlery basics with room to grow. The knives in the set include an 8-inch cook's knife, an 8-inch carving knife, a 6-inch sandwich knife, an 8-inch serrated bread knife, a 5-inch serrated sausage knife, a 4-1/2-inch utility knife, and a 3-1/2-inch paring knife. I never understood what my brother-in-law was complaining about when he used my previous knives until I purchased this Wusthof set. What took me so long? These knives are a dream and well worth the investment. I am not a professional chef but anyone who cooks at all deserves to have the pleasure of using knives like these. I will most definitely round out my set. Struggling with inadequate knives are in my past.

This is a fabulous set of knives! They are well-balanced and the ergonomic handles are very comfortable for both my husband and me to use. We considered the Classic set, but in a hands-on comparison, we favored the feel of this handle. The blades are exactly the same between the Classic and the Grand Prix, so get your hands on some and let personal preference decide which line is right for you.

After using a set of Henckels that I gave the folks, I found that my Gerber knives were too thick and didn't cut nearly as easily. Then I started researching the differences between the two top brands, Wusthof and Henckels. The knives are both nearly perfect in balance and cutting ability. The main differences are in the handle preference and finish. The Wusthof have excellent finishing, with no observed flaws. The handle design on the Classic Henckels isn't as refined as that of the classic Wusthof. The Grand Prix knives are razor sharp, wonderfully crafted, beautiful, and a real pleasure to use. They are pricey, but well worth it!
