Champion Juicer G5-PG-710 Reviews

Champion Juicer G5-PG-710 Review by louienapoli "louieb" (Chicago)

I bought my first Champion 20 years ago. It was the home model and it was superb. I gave it to a friend who was pressed for dough and bought the commercial model, which is the same size, essentially, but with a different motor. That was ten years ago. It still works like it did the first day I took it out of the box. The only part I have replaced is the cutter, which, after ten years, seemed like it might be getting dull. The Plastaket Company is a mom and pop operation that really loves their product and puts enormous care into each machine. When you call during their business hours, a person answers the phone, not a machine. Recently, I was intrigued by the Omega 8000 series, which seem to be an emulation of the Champion but with a hard plastic "auger" instead of an auger with steel teeth. I saw a demo on youtube where the guy was pushing the Omega over the Champion, and insinuating that the Champ warms the juice and destroys enzymes. This is pure bull. I have tested the juice with a thermometer and it typically is around 68 degrees; enzymes start dying (depending on whom you ask) at about 104 degrees. The pulp can be wet at times but I put it back through. The quality of the juices is superb. I have never tried to juice wheatgrass with it, and I have heard it does not do a good job with that; however, I regularly juice all kinds of leafy greens including kale, lettuce, and parsley, and it goes a great job with them. It's fairly quiet and it's easy to clean. The integrity of the company is awesome and they build these machines to last. I am a fan.

Champion Juicer G5-PG-710 Review by Smith Family

I've had this juicer for about four months now, and honestly, it gets on my nerves sometimes. I love how high quality it is, and I've never had any problems with juice getting warm. So, I know I'm getting all the nutrients I need. But, it's hard to clean, and leaks all over. My kitchen looks like a produce bomb went off every time I'm done with it! I miss my upright widemouth juicer that I could throw a whole apple in, stick my cup under the spout, and out comes fresh apple juice ready to drink! With the Champion, most foods have to be cut up into pieces; even large carrots. It does juice leafy greens very well if you chop them up, though. And you have to use a bowl under the pulp spout, and a bowl under the juice screen. Then, good luck trying to pour it from the bowl into a cup without it dribbling down the side of the bowl. Lots of pulp ends up in the juice, and I usually end up straining it. Cleaning it can be hazardous. The grinder is a cylinder with serrated teeth all the way around it. No matter how careful I am, I have cut my thumbs on it probably three times in the four months I've had it. So it comes down to the question; is it worth having a frustrating, messy juicer just to have healthier juice? I dunno... I'm thinking about getting a centrifugal...

Champion Juicer G5-PG-710 Review by K. Weiss (Redondo Beach, CA United States)

I did not purchase this item on amazon as I got a better price elsewhere. This is simply a great juicer which I have been using every morning. Once you get the knack of assembling and re-assembling it, you're good to go. Because I use it every day, I leave it on the kitchen counter since it's way too heavy and cumbersome to drag in and out of a cupboard. You may occasionally need one of those kitchen scrub brushes to remove all of the residue from veggies like celery and be sure to remember to wash the parts in cool (not hot) water immediately after using to make cleanup easier. I found that carrots may leave a bit of a stain but didn't have that problem with beets. I tried juicing wheatgrass today and it didn't work very well so I may have to get another juicer just for that purpose. If it weren't for the fact that it doesn't do wheatgrass (and on the second day I noticed paint chipping off both legs), it would have given this machine 5 stars.
